Dear friends,

Most people have the tendency of hearing but not really listening to the words spoken to them.

Jesus experienced this with some of his disciples and others who heard His message but were not really listening.

So he addressed them this way – “but I say to you who listen, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you” (Luke 6:27).

Jesus appealed to his disciples this way because he was conscious of the hatred the Jews had for the Romans who oppressed them, and demonstrated discrimination and injustice during their rule.

Conscious of their hatred, he wanted them to understand that to love Him requires loving, or showing love to others, even their enemies, in spite of the mistreatment or criminal activity they might have done. Hatred stirs up quarrels but, love covers all sins (Prov. 10:12).

Let us not allow hate to consume us; If we do, it will eventually destroy our lives and give Satan much pleasure.

Scripture reminds us that Satan has come to kill, steal and destroy. So Satan is not going to guide us right into truth.

Let us demonstrate God’s love by following his word: The Holy Spirit will guide us and give us the boldness and courage to offer love to all, even our enemies.
